The Simple Silverlight Media Player is, as its name suggests, a basic, reusable media player that can be embedded into your website. The media player exposes the following properties via it's initialization parameters:

mediaSource - uri of the file for the player to play.
thumbSource - uri of the thumbnail to display in the player.
title - title to display in the player.
autoPlay - whether or not the player should start playing when it loads (default is false).
autoLoad - whether or not the player should automatically download content when it loads (default is false).

All of these parameters, with the exception of the mediaSource param, are optional.

To use the player, simply upload SSMP.xap to your website and embed a Silverlight object on a page via the following, standard, markup (just be sure to fill in the appropriate values):

<object data="data:application/x-silverlight-2," type="application/x-silverlight-2" width="100%" height="100%">
<param name="initParams" value="mediaSource={media uri},title={title},autoPlay=true,autoLoad=false" />
<param name="source" value="{path to SSMP.xap}"/>
<param name="onError" value="onSilverlightError" />
<param name="background" value="white" />
<param name="minRuntimeVersion" value="3.0.40624.0" />
<param name="autoUpgrade" value="true" />
<a href="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=149156&v=3.0.40624.0" style="text-decoration:none">
<img src="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=108181" alt="Get Microsoft Silverlight" style="border-style:none"/>
</a>
</object>

Are you using WordPress, like me, and want to embed SSMP in your blog posts? No problem. Just do the following:
  1. Get Tim Heuer's Silverlight plug-in for WordPress here {http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/silverlight-for-wordpress/}.
  2. Install the plug-in on your site.
  3. Upload the SSMP.xap file to your website.
  4. Embed the player in your post like so: {[silverlight: {xap file name}, 400, 338, mediaSource={uri to media file}#title={title}#autoPlay=false#autoLoad=false]} (exclude the curly braces, these are only included to work around a formatting issuing in CodePlex)

How about SharePoint? It works with Sharepoint too, just do the following:
  1. Upload the SSMP.xap file to a document library.
  2. Add a Content Editor Web Part to the page you want to use the player on.
  3. Embed the player in the web part just like you would when adding to a standard html page:

<object data="data:application/x-silverlight-2," type="application/x-silverlight-2" width="100%" height="100%">
<param name="initParams" value="mediaSource={media uri},title={title},autoPlay=true,autoLoad=false" />
<param name="source" value="{path to SSMP.xap}"/>
<param name="onError" value="onSilverlightError" />
<param name="background" value="white" />
<param name="minRuntimeVersion" value="3.0.40624.0" />
<param name="autoUpgrade" value="true" />
<a href="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=149156&v=3.0.40624.0" style="text-decoration:none">
<img src="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=108181" alt="Get Microsoft Silverlight" style="border-style:none"/>
</a>
</object>
